The Church That Love Built
Rev. J. Gottman was born and raised in Hannibal, Missouri (Mark Twain’s boyhood home). He attended Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. After his undergraduate studies, he was accepted into the Divinity School at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN, where he earned his Masters of Divinity degree in 1997. After graduation he continued his learning as a resident chaplain at the Veteran’s Hospital in Nashville in the Clinical Pastoral Education program. He was ordained by the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in June 1998. In September 1998, he was called to Century Christian Church in Owensboro, KY, where he served for 6 years. In February of 2005, First Christian Church of Paducah extended a call to him and he served there for 11 ½ years.
Since 2016, Rev. Gottman has served at United Church of Paducah in a part time capacity.
J. is married and they have two adult children.
